Ira has been distressed and concerned by what is happening inside the Immigration Removal Centre. She wishes to talk with other ‘residents’ at the Centre to see whether they would like to tell their stories and explain their concerns publicly here.
Many of the other residents at Yarl’s Wood do not have solicitors. They have been given very little information about what is happening or what may happen to them. They have no phone credit to contact solicitors, no privacy, no freedom. Some people do not have anyone who knows that they are there. Like Ira, many of the residents were taken to Yarl’s Wood without warning after their first interview concerning their asylum application.
Stay tuned for testimonies from inside Yarl’s Wood. It is so important to raise awareness about what is happening inside detention centres, and to give support and solidarity to those inside.
