Letter from Misha Verbitsky, National Research University

Dear Sir or Madam,
it came to my attention that
Irina Putilova, a young Russian artist,
is currently interred in Yarl’s Wood Immigration Removal
Centre. Being a part of internationally reknown
Pussy Riot art group, she would be imprisoned
if deported to Russia. Other artists from Pussy Riot,
Nadezhda Tolokonnikova and Mariya Alekhina, became
political prisoners in a highly publicized case two
years ago. Russian political police never closed
the case Irina Putilova, who was investigated along
with Tolokonnikova and Alekhina.

Deportation of Irina Putilova and her imminent
imprisonment by Russian political police forces is likely
to cause international uproar comparable to the Pussy
Riot’s case. Such a blow to human rights abroad
would certainly damage UK international reputation.

We urge you to consider the case of Irina Putilova with
utmost care, and give her a refugee status she clearly
deserves.

All the best
